Plan for Britton LaRoche

by Britton LaRoche · 04/01/2004 (7:25 am) · 29 comments

Looks like the Game Connection was a hit! The GDC was not all that great but the face to face meeting with the retail publishers paid off!!

www.burgerwar.com

Woo hoo! I just about pooped in my pants when I saw the terms. **(CONFIDENTIAL) advance, Approx equal **(CONFIDENTIAL) amount on deliverable of the gold master and 10% roylaties for the first 9 months of retail sales. Fantastic. They play tested the beta with a bunch of college and highschool kids who loved it. Everyone of them was ready to buy. They said it was the best market test that they had ever seen on a game!

After the downer of the GDC (Garage Games was the only good thing out there) this is much needed. I can finally breath a sigh of relief and start hiring people full time at Amped Labs

Yeeesss!! Dreams do come true! I've been doubting my self recently, But when Thomas faxed the contract to me last night I realised that your dreams are the only true thing in life. Trust em!

Now the real work begins!

** the total CONFIDENTIAL amount is about twice what I could earn as an employee in a year.

Thanks everybody. I just woke up from a brief nap with a phone ring. Things are starting to move quickly again. Still in a state of shell shock but a very good shock. Never thought it would happen this quickly.

@Thomas, thanks for the heads up! I changed the link.
@Sven thanks! You content packs helped us with some nifty buildings!
@Michael, Clutch, Saurav and Kurtis... Thanks!!!

I'm pretty sure this is not an April fools joke by my Lawyer. One it would not be professional and 2 he sent me the fax around 9PM last night and that does not count as April 1 even with the difference in time zones.

Plus I just got off the phone with the publishing rep giving me a hardy congrats. I'm not sure if I can give the publisher name yet and maybe blabbing like this is not such a hot idea either. I just could not contain the excitment any longer.

I'll check with Thomas and give you guys the details if its okay, and the news should be coming out soon anyway. I'm working on some new in game footage to send to the publisher to go with the news release. I'll be sure to post that here as soon as I am done with it. It may be late tonight.

I can tell you that it is not Activision Value, although they were one of the value publishers at the game connection. It probably would not be too hard to figure it out anyway. As far as IP and such they bought the whole kaboodle for that price after 9 months they own it all with no royalties. I will be working on a port to the X Box by Thanksgiving as part of the deal.

The cool thing is that all the code and such is in Game Beavers and all I really sold was the Original Idea of the game and the art content, and the work that went into putting the art in game etc...

The publisher is interested in more games like this and is pressing me for info. They asked if legends would be interested in a retail deal, but I told them it was a free game. They are looking for titles in late beta. I'll let the legends guys do the talking, I sent them the contact info I have.

Yes they have looked at Lore too but they did not tell me what the deal with Lore was maybe they already talked to Max Gaming or maybe they are in negoatiations. In which my blabbing could cause problems so I'd better shut up for now.

@Josh, I think having a lawyer on the team made all the difference in the world.

Almost makes me wish Mayhem was at a showable point. I know it is irrational, but I get this feeling that i'm a day late and a dollar short :p

Its going to be a long 3 months rofl.

John, a strong demo is a must. I'm putting together some docs on getting published at Game Beavers. All I can say is be sure to attend the game connecton next year if you dont have a deal by then. And I'll be sure to keep you in the loop. Best of luck with your project!

Ah, we have an update... the lawyer would have pimped slapped me, but he is too happy about getting the deal signed right now. Instead he pulled a Dr. Evil "Zip it!," and "www.shhh.com, .org .net..."

The rates and amounts are supposed to be confidentail. I'm going to change the plan post to be more general. Also I should not be spreading any news of the deal at the moment because it seems like they may be chatting with a few other GG'ers.

Those of you who saw the post please keep the amounts quiet. I dont want to get the publisher mad at me or the rest of us here. All I can say is if you are contacted get a lawyer before you sign any contracts. Not that anyone here will be contacted I dont know. Although I did mention Lore, Legends and Cyberfuge.

If you do have a demo or beta ready be sure to contact me and I'll pass the info to Thomas and the publisher. Also I plan on posting some of the new in game Burger Wars videos here as soon as they are ready for some feedback.
