Plan for Nauris Krauze

My wife finally bought photo camera for herself. She's an amateur hobbyist and I gotta admit, she captures fine pictures. The only gripe is that she bought Nikon F65 while I was trying to persuade her that digital camera would be "very very much ok and I could use it for my purposes as well"...ehm.. how nice of me. Anyways, I found (again) that ma femme is very stubborn woman and actually, she's right, for her purposes it is the best solution.
So now I'm trying to figure out, whether F65 could or could not become handy for me as well. mostly, for textures.
Has anybody had experience with scanning "classic pictures"? how do you deal with "glossiness" of photopaper?
On other note, I recently finished first Ornament Set for Realm Wars. Logan said that they're fine and usable for textures. I hope he wasnt saying it to avoid me being dissapointed :D
Strangely, day after I had sent files to Logan, I finally understood how "real orcish" ornaments should look like. So now I'm frantically working on next texture pack which should have more consistant style.
Also, work on art for Steve Fletcher's Ecoheroes is slowly creeping ahead. Soon I'll have completed my part (non-character art) and I plan to take a break of some week or so and then revise all i've done and polish it.

You could probably work out a trade with someone though, to get yourself a digital. I'm far too deep into coding right now to worry about art, but when its turn comes, I would be more than happy to send you one of my spare digitals in exchange for some of your awesome artistry.
Surely, I'm not the only one...

Scans can look good-great depending on the quality and type of scanner. Personally, I have better luck with a flatbed. You could probably work out a trade with someone though, to get yourself a digital. Nauris, your stuff is awesome. Don't fret it. I'm a fan of your work and I'm sure there are more of us.

You could always get a photoscanner. They are cheaper then a regular scanner and designed to scan in photo's. I'm not sure how well they work but I'm sure there are some people around who have used them ;).Nauris, your stuff is awesome. Don't fret it. I'm a fan of your work and I'm sure there are more of us.

But most important, i still have not a single completed project in my portfolio. I have been tinkering with thought of actually managing team of my own, but my lack of fundamental tech knowledge would make me a lousy leader. It should be strange to hear from "artistic" person but i dont really believe in artists as team leaders. You gotta understand the code part.
Anyways, you guys are good group therapy:) Dont expect any checks though :P
@Frank: Not yet, but I plan to set her up something. Do you have some of yours online?
@Erick: I`ll look into it. There were some options for photographs in scanner`s settings to be explored (CanoScan Lide30, actually im not happy with it, should have sticked to HP. im ashamed to admit it, but my choice of last scanner buy was based more on its slick design than functionality).
About trade - hell, why not. Even without a trade I`d be happy to help you out, as i`m not that busy as i think you think i am. As long as its not MMRPG youre working on:P (have some dreaded memories about them)
@LFoster, thanks:) Btw, sounds ironical but the most "orcish" ornamental style is that of my own country`s. Yes, i guess we were quite a skull crackers some time ago :D

Thanks for kind words, all of ya, really. I`m in kinda "middle age" phase (sheesh, hearing that from 25y old) when I start to evaluate what I`ve done so far. Unfortunately, I feel that not enough and i could have done better. One of main concerns has been education, actually, as I`ve no formal art training and my only academic experience has been 3 years of tv directing faculty. even that didnt give me that much and those 5 years i spent actually working as director and producer tought me some 15 times more than lecturers in university. But most important, i still have not a single completed project in my portfolio. Was it pure entertainment trip or mixed with business of sort?

Frank, seems that you`ve had a really cool vacation. I especially like the divided Japan- modern and ancient. Those imperial palace shots are very good. Was it pure entertainment trip or mixed with business of sort?

It was a business trip + some holidays I took just after. I really like Japan and have lots of friend there. The fish market trip was very funny 'cause you have to be there at 5 in the morning to see the interesting things. The 47 ronin grave was like a 'pelerinage' for me. I read the book two weeks before going to Tokyo, and said to myself that I should go to their grave.
