Plan for Mike Stoddart

by Mike Stoddart · 05/27/2002 (3:01 pm) · 2 comments

"I love it when a plan comes together!". Wow, progress has been made! I've surprised myself by managing to release a simple alpha demo of my game, War In Europe.

The demo shows the basics of friendly fire, player classes and team play, including a function to add stationary bots into either team.

I just released a patch today to fix some bugs, and there should another patch tomorrow fixing yet more bugs in friendly fire and scoring.

My greatest fear is that the performance of my code modifications will be below acceptable levels. So if anyone tries the demo, please let me know what you think of this (debug statements notwithstanding).

If you try the demo or look at the screenshots, you'll see that all of the models are taken from either the stock Torque installation or Realm Wars. Well, I'm not a modeller and I figure that game mechanics are more important than models at this stage.

What's next?

- playerList Gui so that more info is displayed.
- team scores. Currently only player scores are tracked
- possible bug in playerList where player name is blue and not green
- possible bug when player dies and not being respawned
- more testing!

Anyway, I posted an announcement on my site, and made the downloads available through there.

Is this a remake of the short-lived Half-Life mod using the Torque engine? The link to Front Room Games doesn't work, btw.

It's not really a remake; I'm hoping it will be different to Day of Defeat in terms of weapons, classes and features.

Thanks - I fixed the link. I've also just decided that I don't like the website it links to. I used to, but I've gone off it.
