Prehistoric Tree Pack 1 for Forester Pro

by Matthew Genge · 07/13/2014 (1:37 pm) · 9 comments

Forester Pro is a tree creator for Torque3D which generates randomized tree models that import seamlessly into the world editor. Models produced by Forester Pro are generated with collision meshes and LODs automatically together with vertex colours for wind effects.

We've just released Prehistoric Tree Pack 1 for Forester Pro featuring a range of prehistoric trees dating back to the Palaeozoic Era, some are still alive today as living fossils and are common in jungles. Templates include tree ferns, cyclads, horsetail ferns, sigillaria trees and scale trees (Lepidodendron). Each template in the pack can generate a wide range of randomized models. Templates are shown below:

Some scenes created with plants generated from this template pack are shown below:

There are now 18 tree and plant packs available for Forester Pro that can produce a huge number of models of over 120 different plant and tree species. Each template pack costs $10. Tree Packs require the registered version of Forester Pro.

Forester Pro, including a free version that comes with 7 different templates, can be downloaded from our website. the registered version costs $30.

@Matthew: Are you guys thinking of providing a bundle of the templates at a reduced price?

Where can I log some bugs that I have discovered with the systems?

Edit: Yeah, I see your point. I agree, the pricing is very reasonable and I never took in to account the cost per individual template in the template pack.

Please accept my apology ... the cost is extremely reasonable. Sorry. 8-{

Hi Quinton,

support@hptware.co.uk for bug reports and support.

We will at some point do a bundle, largely to make purchasing easier, and it will include a bulk discount. Although you got to admit, at $2 a template, it's already pretty cheap.

Best,
Matt

Imo no price reduction or discount is needed, it's really damn cheap.

However have you thought about making a SDK? So it could be plugged directly into the game engine, sort of like having a "Tree Editor", or even save trees by parameters and a random seed rather than actual model files so you can randomize the trees directly in engine?

Perhaps it could even be optimized so much that every tree in the game could be unique and generated at run-time?

Just an idea, thanks for a great product!

Wow ... I just realise how rude I have been. Matthew please accept my apologies.

The tools you have created are awesome and well worth the money. Looking back on my post, I have realised that I was out of line and should have chosen my words better.

I am very grateful for the tools and the template prices are indeed well worth the value. Thank you for creating them and once again please accept my sincerest apology ... I sounded so ungrateful. This was not my intention. 8-{

Hi Guys,

No don't worry...wasn't in the least bit offended ;)

And SDK would involve completely rewriting the entire code. All 30,000 lines of it. Additionally Forester supports several different engines.

Aww too bad, could've been cool to be able to generate trees directly from within the engine.

Anyways great product and I can't tell you how happy I am for having a tool that supports T3D out of the box :P

Prehistoric trees... I did not expect that, interesting how many ideas you have for new sets, I wonder what will be next. How about postapocalyptic trees?
