Very, very nice. They could be the trees I'm looking for! If the textures were PNGs and trees were also available as OBJ and/or FBX it would be perfect. I'd be interested in using them for a potentially mobile project, and DDS isn't supported. DAE is also a bit iffy for that engine, unfortunately. Any choice of doing that as an add-on?

(It would be worth even more than $35 at that point ;)

Ronny, I can handle the exporting to .FBX and all the original textures were .png so I have the files. I can see about including them in version 1.01.

It's a learning curve for me since this is my first pack. I figured there may be things that I should have added to the pack. I will talk with the Garage Games guys and see what I can do.

Looks like a great pack, you seem to have really focused on ensuring the quality is there and everything is thought out.

As a coder my main source of artwork is from packs I can purchase, so many of those though are delivered in a poor state either with directories left unclean, textures in multiple different formats, LOD's missing or no collision meshes, etc.

It's great to see a pack where you seem to have covered all bases to ensure the quality and ease of use, then sprinkle on top of that the tutorial you've included and you're talking gold dust.

Excellent :)

@ EVERYONE ...Thank you all very much. I hope you get more than just a couple of models out of this pack. Also, wait till you see the next one :-)

Additional note: There will be an update to the Conifer Forest Pack. I am working this weekend to add .FBX format for all the models and I will add the .png format textures as well. I should have paid closer attention to the earlier requests.

ALSO: If those of you that have purchased the pack and see any issues or problems with any of the models in the pack....Please tell me so that I can try to address them with this update. Again thank you all for the kind comments and I will keep plugging away at the next pack and the accompanying tutorial/3D artist PDF.

KAP@ The detail in the demo is great, best I've seen and the conifers never looked better. Its definitely on par with commercial stuff.

I do have some constructive feedback, but don't let it diminish how great this pack already is!

First, it would be great to have a directory with "assets only" ... that I can dump copy over a new fresh "project" or merge into my existing project. I'm assuming possibly that what the source folder was for.

However, I noticed that the source folders doesn't include all the same models and such that are in the demo.

Point being ... to get the demo level working in an existing project, I had to copy over all the "source" stuff ... and all the shapes from within the demo as well. (maybe could have just copied everything from the demo, but I assumed source had it all).

This included merging the art/forest/*.cs brushes, so it could load the forest properly.

A specific example I found ... the demo referenced art/shapes/trees/SprucePine_001 and 002 ... while its not under the same directory in the source folder.

second, is possibly only noticable because of all the work put into this level ... but I notice strange vertical "bars" in distance ground cover objects, when its distant only ... like the grass.

Trying to upload a couple examples, I think its just the LOD setting taking effect ... or such;

Jeff,

I will take a look at the file issue that you mentioned. It may be just a file name thing. I will check it out and make any adjustments. More to follow on that.

As for the 'cross hatch' issues in the demo, I worked on that problem and could not find a way to totally eliminate it. I know it is related to LOD changes and I think it may be the same issue that I noticed when I added grass to the terrain. For some reason T3D tends to do a "cross hatch" thing when fading in objects that contain transparency. I will keep working this issue and let you know if I find an error or what the problem is. More to follow on this as well.

Also, I have no issue with constructive criticism. The issues you pointed out are valid and I will get right on them. Feedback always helps.

There will be an update to the Pack early next week once Chris at GG gets back from GDC.

Thanks

K

I've been experimenting with the art assets for about two weeks now. Even cracked open the demo level to see how you put things together. Nice work :D However, there is an issue with one of the trees, the SprucePine, while in the editor seems to be missing material... Not sure why any suggestions?

William@ view the tree in the object editor (3d box icon) ... and then click on the materials and point it to the associated material ... should then update properly.

ive seen it get out of sync with any assets, because of the material.cs files or such ... but selecting it and saving seems to fix it for good.

Yep. The only difficult part was fixing the distance versions, but I figured that out too. Thanks for the help :D

Oops. Spoke too soon. If I reload the level after exiting it happens all over again.
