Valhyre moving Forward

In a nut shell, I started making games cause I wanted to create a game I wanted to play. I wanted a First Person Shooter that was not set to a modern combat theme, that allowed the use of the old sword and sorcery motiff. I loved Hexen when it came out even if it was a Doom Clone.

Like a lot of novices, I wanted to shoot big or go home, If i can make an FPS why not an MMO! The reality of that set in quick enough, resources, time, skill set all were lacking for a task of that magnitude. So my sites moved to a different target, a first person shooter with a fantasy theme along the times of counter strike, TeamFortress and others.

Valhyre is becoming that game I envisioned. Two races, brawn over brain, the tough winged reptialian Bastlur against the small, quick and smart Nilbog. Players will be able to choose either side and duke it out in a variety of battle arenas.

I started with TGE 1.3, and immediately loved the ability to fast prototype different game mechanics I wanted to develop. I am not a coder and really loved just how much could be done in script, and figured if I needed to get into the code, well thats what contractors are for.

There was many things I was able to get accomplished in TGE with the help of CollossalStudios , noolness, and many others in the community. I was most proud of the flight mechanics created to allow a feeling of gliding instead of having a jetpack feeling.

There were several reasons, but eventually I left TGE and moved on to other systems. I even created an XNA version for Community Games, but found the MS process really limiting,

When GG announced T3D, and the ability to use .DAE format I came back to take a look. I was impressed with what they were doing and signed up during beta. (Got the shirt! Who could pass that up?)

Progress has been slow but steady.

Valhyre is finishing up beta 1 soon with Beta 2 including availablity of a 2 map and 2 race demo. I wouldnt be this close to the finish line if it wasnt for Torque and plan to stick with it till the end.

I dont know what the future holds for Valhyre but I do know what ever challenges are faced, I am better able to go down swinging because of using Torque.

Looking good Donald. Definately like the gliding, a great way to spend some of the gameplay - would be good if you can carry and drop items onto things whilst gliding. Have you also thought about spawning the player choice so that they don't get killed first? Maybe a particle effect removing the player and materialising the new one - I'm sure you've thought about that already tho, or using AFX to throw in some smoke - assuming you have AFX. You have my sale :)

I've said it before but that is some good flying.

Nice menus too, just working on a load of them myself.

I use a variety of resources from the community and have gotten lots of support be it on the forums or in IRC. This is a great engine and community. Still working on it though along with some new features and game types. Glad you guys like it.
