Today, InstantAction informed employees that it will be winding down operations. While we are shutting down the InstantAction.com website and Instant Jam game, Torquepowered.com will continue to operate while InstantAction explores opportunities with potential buyers for Torque. We thank all of our past and current customers for their support.

Greetings,

I'm a full time game-art student that works part time for a small independent multimedia company. Recently my boss asked me to do some research on your Enchanted Forest add-on for the 3D torque engine.

What we would like to do is to create some dynamic environments ( birds, butterflies, plants/leaves moving ) using Enchanted Forest and export them as quicktime files for some green screen application.

@Christian S - We have already reported the bug in our site feedback forum. There is nothing we can do about it right now. If you want to post a large amount of feedback, create a forum thread or join me in IRC.

Just came back home and discovered this.
What a pity.

Best of luck to the team(s) for the future.
I hope to read you back soon anywhere on the net.

I have to say I saw this coming since the beginning of the venture.
But it doesn't matter that much, does it?

Take care.
Best of luck. Again.

I think IA would have a much better chance of selling TGB and T3D separately. I don't see anyone willing to buy the TorqueX line. If IA couldn't support so many engines, I highly doubt another company could. It would just be the same mistake all over again.

Anyway, I hope they find a buyer who is more capable than IA was. I really hope my investment in Torque tech pays off.

will the games from instant action be transferred to torque?

Continued from my previous post:

Our first question is with no experience at all with 3D torque, how difficult will it be for us to create something like I've mentioned above using the Enchanted Forest add on. I'm quite proficient in maya and 3Dmax.

Two, for this sort of project would any of the the other add ons be needed like Verve or Purelight.

Carl, if you want to speed up answers on this;
..ask your boss if there is money in the budget for someone to answer your questions and guide you through the processes.

If so, post in the jobs section. Either way, best of luck to you on getting this accomplished.

@Carl Allen: According to the license agreement on that art pack (not an add-on but an Art Pack):

Quote:Source art included in Maya Binary, 3DS, FBX, OBJ, and LWO formats.

So you will be able to open them in both Maya and 3DSMax.

It's rather easy to place a 3D model in Torque 3D (basicly search, double click to add and drag to place/rotate) - Building an entire scene however, really depends on how complex the scene is. Could take hours, could take days.

Here's how easy it is to place a 3D model inside Torque 3D:

@Luis Rodrigues

THanks for your response, actually we werent planning on importing anything from maya or 3dmax.

What we wanted to do was use the enchanted forest addon to create a dynamic panning scene using 3dTorque something similar to the Enchanted Forest video demo on the site.

1) Just wanted to know how difficult that would be for a newbe

2) Would something like the demo require the Verve and Purelight addons

3) And is it possible to export a moving camera scene from Torque 3D to quicktime or AVI.

I guess you just could export the entire environment to maya and do camera and video file creation there. Just thought it would be easier to maintain the dynamic movements like: the butterflies, moving water if the whole scene was done in Torque 3D and exported from there as a video file.

You could record it with Fraps or similar screen recording software.

@Carl - you mentioned Maya and 3DSMax so i assumed you wanted to tweek something.

Besides those formats, that Art Pack also comes with DTS format - wich is what Torque 3D uses for models - so you can use those (the video shows how to place them in the scene) and then as Assassinni mentions, use Fraps or other such screen capturing programs to capture the scene on video and use QuickTime Pro to convert that video to QuickTime Movie.

And there you have it. Hope this helps

(continued)

Like i mentioned - the dificulty will depend on the complexuty and size of the scene - it's building the scene (placing models, etc) thatyou will spend more time - how much time? Depends on how complex the scene.

As a long time member (2001) i hate to see you all go as well. But I will definently continue to use Torque3D as my engine of choice and have recently discovered the joys of Torque2D. The community is great and i am very well invested in the Torque platform. Goodluck to everyone and keep forging ahead with Torque.

@Luis & Assassini

I really appreciste your responses!

One last question, is it possible to tell if the Enchabted Forest youtube demos is utilizing the verve or purelight addons. From what I understand the torque3D engine by itself is pretty barebones (I certainly could be wrong about that aspect.

Thanks
Carl

@Kiernan -

Quote:will the games from instant action be transferred to torque?
No plans for that. This is a game development site. Some games are already entering the hands of other parties, but not Torque.

I wish everyone well I have worked with over the years. Melv especially.

I cant say we are a very happy customer anyway with the odd silence in the 2D realm being what is has been recently. However, I think this just sealed our decision to migrate core parts of our pipeline away from torque which was already in discussion because of the lack of communication.

Rodney - where are you planing to migrate to? What kind of 2D engine do you have in mind? Thanks.
