Today, InstantAction informed employees that it will be winding down operations. While we are shutting down the InstantAction.com website and Instant Jam game, Torquepowered.com will continue to operate while InstantAction explores opportunities with potential buyers for Torque. We thank all of our past and current customers for their support.

Agreed!

GG had been coming on in leaps and bounds over the last year or two, and that's down to the work put in by Eric, Michael and co.

Like I said before, I hope this all comes to a swift conclusion - I'll be surprised if there aren't some people out there who recognise the value of the T3D system and its family members.

It's all a question of financial risk etc.

Yea, Eric and team were kicking all ass. Things were going better than they had in years. Actually, if you were going to buy garage games, wouldn't now be a great time opposed to several years ago? I sure think Torque is much more viable as a money maker now.

Bummer news, I hope all the laid off employees find work soon and that Torque finds a future. Good luck and thanks again.

Sorry to hear the news. I've spent hundred of hours with the engine with past and ongoing personal projects over the last four years (with MaxGaming and 21-6 and others).

For what it's worth, I work at a studio doing console work in SF Bay Area and we're always looking for engineers (game, tools, engine). If interested, you can email me a resume at RCondon@Sanzaru.com.

(Just throwing that out there. I don't mean to head hunt but I wanted to do more than just wish everyone good luck.)

That's what I call shameless advertising!

Yeah, I was surprised when I logged onto the ShiVa site today and saw that (I switched a couple of months ago). They seem to be a really friendly team who listens to their customers, remember how GG used to be a few years ago? Didn't expect a blatant banner across the site like that..

It would be better to offer an upgrade route, this just seems a little predatory. But maybe they also realize that you can't charge 1500 euros for a top of the line engine.

Ever since unity and unreal went free. I feel that it is way harder to charge money for the software.

I was saddened to hear the news. It's the end of an era for indie development in a way. We'll be maintaining support for pureLIGHT for the near future. We'll have to see how things play out. We do support other engines and have an upgrade option if some users switch. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any question.

@ David, I am still interested in purchasing pureLIGHT in the "near future". Any chance it will be going on sale in light of the current situation? My main application is T3D based.

John, the best we can do right now is offer the upgrade to the full versoin that supports T3D, Unity and Leadwerks for $150 for existing users. If there is anough demand we would consider a discounted price for the T3D version.

Post removed by moderator - The effort is appreciated but its too soon for something like this and could impact finding a buyer not to mention sow confusion in the community.

The funny thing is how people buy other engines without knowing that , still torque has a good chance of fighting back!

@Vincent (cross post): not sure what you are doing with that website... A foundation has to be a legal entity and shall be started by the IP owners or with their written authorization. I understand the spirit and I appreciate it, but you just breached a bunch of EU and US laws and regulations and also used Torque logo without having right to do so :) My suggestion is to take down the logo right away.

@Vincent - Confused with the torquefoundation website. Is everything going open source (i'm interesed in iTGB)?

I think we might be moving too fast on this Foundation idea, it might be better to wait for a while and see what happens...

If not a "foundation", we can still have some sort of umbrella organization. Basically, the idea is that the users form a bloc that can make an offer for the engine. If to much "wait and see" time passes however, Torque's user base will fragment as some stick it out, hoping, some stick it out, preferring to go it on their own than change horses and others lode hope and move on. Then it might be too late.
