Today, InstantAction informed employees that it will be winding down operations. While we are shutting down the InstantAction.com website and Instant Jam game, Torquepowered.com will continue to operate while InstantAction explores opportunities with potential buyers for Torque. We thank all of our past and current customers for their support.

I just buried my nose in 3DGPAI1 looking over your tutorials on TorqueScript. That was a great book, Ken. I'd always hoped you'd be doing a Torque 3D book sometime soon. Hint hint.

Thanks for keeping this site going! Also, 3DGPAi12E was a good book Ken Finney, thank you for that. I'm reading through it right now for game dev course, but I need to get a kindle version cause the book is so huge! Good luck to everyone involved with the development of the Torque game engines.

I hope everyone at torque gets there jobs back. Hopefully with a buyer Torque will gain the flexibility to do what they need to do to be successful.

I'm disappointed with Instant Action and the mess they have created. This is their mistake and they're making Torque pay for that. To any potential buyer for Torque I would recommend it and making sure that the great people that are behind it continue to be there. Make it happen.

I would also like to express my support for a "Torque Foundation" or some kind of community buy-out.
Good luck to all of the people who worked so hard on this!

Wow, I just heard about this, what a shock! Torque is an awesome project, and concept, and the people behind it have always believed in their work, I have no doubt that they will succeed in where ever they decide to go next.I would also like to express my support for a "Torque Foundation" or some kind of community buy-out.
Good luck to all of the people who worked so hard on this!

Torque Foundation! Let the community buy the torque license/ide/whatever and develop it, and release it for free for indies, just like what the Blender Foundation did.

i think a torque foundation is a good idea i would help

I believe there is still a lot of relevance for it today.
I like the idea of a foundation or worker buyout or something of that nature.. that is obviously just a wish or thought though.
To the torque employees .. layoffs are happening everywhere these days, even with competent staff. Try and take it on the chin if at all possible and realize for all the complaints there is a lot of appreciation for the GG ethos and you guys.

No engine is really setup the way Torque is setup.I believe there is still a lot of relevance for it today.

i think it take far to much money for the community to buy torque even if we did there be no way we can have all the people that they had working and pay for them so toque products would still not move to much unless there people who want to work on torque for free.

On a Torque foundation the shop would have art assets, 3rd party add-ons, and maybe even community made games
11/15/2010 (8:39 am)
@brandon - the idea they are playing around with is not have someone work for free. In the blender foundation they don't work for free, but their pay doesn't come from the blender itself. Comes from donations from the comunity plus what they sell at the shop - tutorial dvds, merchandising, the movies from their open movie project, etc.On a Torque foundation the shop would have art assets, 3rd party add-ons, and maybe even community made games

alternatively you have a few investors to put up a 51% controlling share, the remainder is then raised by the community that have the engines already, who then have a good say in how the engines are moved forward. It really does depend how much they are selling the Tech for. Future sales would go in to pay for the development and to maintain salaries. Once the company is then in profit, those shareholders get a return on their investment.

yeah sure - an investor buying would be a better solution in the short term but i was just trying to explain to brandon what people are refering to as to the Torque Foundation option

You really deserve it, after all the good work done.
I must also say that after Eric taking his actual position I felt back at home with the regained kind GG attitude towards the community.
Tnx Eric and tnx to all other TP employees.

Haven't checked in for a few days so only just heard the news :'(
I've been around here and using Torque for the last 8 years or so and have a few things on the go with T3D and T2D.. absolutely gutted to hear this.
Really hope something works out and that Torque lives on.. good luck to the whole Torque team.

I still plan on buying T3D pro on Nov. 30 when I get my $1000, this engine is filled with too many good features not to pass by.
