What I learned at Intel AppUp Elements 2010

Ware-Wolf Games was invited to attend this fantastic “unconference” in San Francisco. This was a lavish event sponsored by Intel over two days (September 15-16) at the Marriott Marquis.
Intel brought in high-level experts to share their knowledge in open question and answer periods about the industry and trends. There were seminars and labs covering business and technical topics: how to monetize your app, leveraging AppUp to generate more revenue, game development for Netbook and mobile. See complete event agenda here.
My time was divided between the Coder Challenge and attending the many, many conferences. Basically, I did not sleep until it was all over! When the dust cleared I came home with $2000, a new Netbook, and a profound understanding of where the mobile industry is going. The future seems bright indeed with a predicted 25million apps by 2015, and the convergence of technology like MeeGo: the joint venture by Intel and Nokia that will bring Apps to phones, tablets and smart TVs among other devices. It was also great to talk with devs from all over the world. I had a great conversation with the Lead developer at Massive (UbiSoft Sweden) and got the AAA perceptive on the mobile market. I also got some tips and tricks for advertising our Apps by Mojiva and a representative of MySpace.
Beyond that, Intel treated us to a lavish party. They charted a couple of ferry boats to bring us to a secret VIP party location. You can check out some pictures here.
In case you were wondering, the Coder Challenge was to create a new App in 27hrs or less. The App I created is called VR Aquarium. It will be available in the AppUp store by the end of the month.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding this event, and I will try to answer them as best I can. The way I see it, Indies need to share information with each other if we are to succeed. "United we stand, Divided we fall"

The AppUp validation process was a little rough at first, but it as improved a lot over the last year. The thing to keep in mind is that the AppUp store is still in its infancy, and with the help of partners like ASUS and Best Buy, developers will have multiple chances to showcase their Apps to an ever growing audience.

If you plan on using T2D (TGB 1.7.5) then check out this resource.

Thanks for drawing my attention to Intel AppUp. To date Intel seems to have been noticably absent from the mobile marketing discussion. If you want to know more about Mojiva (or any other mobile ad network) it in considerable detail here: http://mobithinking.com/mobile-ad-network-guide

Wow, your site is packed with useful information on potential mobile marketing providers. I am currently moving my Apps from a try and buy business model to a try(with sponsored Ads) and buy (without Ads) model.
Do you have any suggestions as to which mobile Ad network would be best for games? Since my games are not web based, I would prefer a non CPC model.

I'm was talking with Intel last week and they are doing some great partnerships to ship the AppUp in netbooks... (GREAT IDEA!)
How was your experience with AppUp!? I did some tests, looks very easy to use and to develop...
