Hi guys, just a quick progress report and wanted to say Happy New Year! hope everyone gets where they need to go this year!
Captain Zap - Game Progress
Design Progress
Just getting Adam up to speed with the design, not that there really was much to get up to speed with :)) should make some good progress on this in the next few weeks now someone can work on it. Also should start getting some mission idea's together.
Ive also got a plan for an alpha test sometime next week, basically just to test the flight dynamics changes, plus a few "mission" items, which are simple things to blow up and that can fire back.
Code Progress
Slow this last couple of days. Working out why the guns mounted onto the ship wont fire is leading me down some silly paths. It'd help if I understood the datablock thing more, but thats just a matter of time. From what I can tell, the imageState is getting set for the mounted images (images in this case being guns), so in theory, they SHOULD fire :) I'll have to check what actually makes them fire when mounted on the player and see if there's anything different.
Edit - got the mounted guns working!
Once I have that, I've got two other main objectives, first being something to blow up, the next being something that shoots back.
Once those two are completed, I'll be able to post a little alpha test of a single "training" mission, with almost a whole mission structure :)) of course, it wont be much of a task :)
Art Progress
Made myself a couple of shapes. Mainly just to get some static shapes exporting in case I need em. I still dont quite get the exporting structure, but at least I can import simple "block" objects. I'll get a takeoff/landing pad done this next week so the mission has a start point (and maybe an end). Derek has been doing a ship, so that should be some progress, I'll get him the exporter and see if he can figure it out, otherwise I'll ask joe to export it for me :)) all we need right now, is a ship and a weapon image to stick on it.
So, thats about it for me, should have something playable next week (i.e. playable with some goal, not just "oh it works" kind of playable :))
From there, its a matter of keeping it playable and adding to the core gameplay, mission objects, more brightly coloured weapons :)) some more interface fluff.
Hopefully, with some serious work, it will be approaching something like a game in a month or two.
Happy New Year garagegamers!
Phil.
