Soul Wars - August 2009 Update

by Quinton Delpeche · 09/10/2009 (4:23 am) · 6 comments

August has been another very busy time for the Soul Wars project and things have sometimes gotten a little heated, but overall good progress has been made. The team has changed quite a bit with a few members going, some new ones joining and the odd member returning. All the while they have definitely been putting in the hours on the design side of things and it is starting to piece together incredibly well.

During the past month we released another internal Alpha to the team which allowed us to address a few of the minor bugs and try out a brand new installer system. I have now started moving the code from the older version of TGEA (1.7.1) to the later version (1.8.1), see my latest blog for more information about TGEA. Some new screen shots were also added to the gallery that showcases some of the effects that will be in the final game, these effects were made using the Beta version of ArcaneFX 2, a future blog from me will provide more background information about this awesome add on for TGEA.

The website has been doing well and although it seemed to slow down at one stage there has still been an amazing amount of traffic, we currently have 714 registered members.

Here are some statistics regarding the website for the month of August:
  • 1,449 Visits
  • 18,759 Page Views
  • 12.95 Pages/Visit
  • 18.29% Bounce Rate
  • 00:18:41 Avg. Time on Site
  • 32.37% % New Visits

All of this means we have had a: 122.29% increase on traffic to the site and are still averaging around the 30-40 visitors a day, which is extremely good news.

The Soul Wars Store has been a little quiet and will therefore be getting some new items added to it within the next few days. Feedback has been received from some of the customers already and they are extremely happy with the quality, we will be posting up some pictures of some of the merchandise within the next couple of weeks and this will hopefully allow us to sell some more merchandise.

Currently we are working on a couple of Storyboards for a Teaser video or two, and these will hopefully be completed by the end of September (or earlier if we can). These will primarily be used to create more interest in the project and will be used for advertising on some of the affiliated sites.

Well that is about it for this update, the team is working hard and doing an excellent job and we are getting very close to signing off the major design aspects of the project. This is extremely exciting and means that more visual results will be able to be shared with the community.

One final note, if you are a member on the Soul Wars site then please come and talk to us on the forums or even just post comments on the blogs of the team members. We really want to know what you think and always take all constructive criticism in.

Until the next time.

Great to hear things going good with TGEA. I want to play SoulWars - 90 shots of torque torture!

LOL ... how I do answer that without giving too much away. Let me just say, he would probably fit right in with Ozzie Osbourne and Marilyn Manson. His favourite group is Def Leppard (excuse spelling if I got it wrong) ... but he is dam creative and we keep him locked under the stairs so he doesn't scare away the normal people.

Disclaimer: I am by no means implying that people mentioned above or who listen to the music above are not normal ... just this "odd" member is. :)

Thanks CSMP. The primary idea is to make a high-quality game that not only plays good but looks good as well.

I have invested heavily in art and assets (nothing custom yet but that is in the pipeline) and I have also invested in shaders and other visual technologies.

A lot of time was also spent on getting the GUI right as well, which sometimes people thought I was nuts ... but I was almost fanatical about getting the GUI right.

The next couple of days will see the release of the first "Teaser Video", so to speak, of some in game footage.

Thanks again for the comments.
