Journal Land Pick of the Week
Some more game demos/releases for your weekend playing enjoyment!
Monkey, Robot, Pirate, Ninja - Slather has a demo of his project prototype for people to try, as well as a brief explanation of the culling technique he is using
Journal of AEdmonds - AEdmonds has the final version up for Escape From Space-Prison Lambda with some improved graphics and sound and a proper intro/outro - but no gameplay changes from the last demo posted
Journal of zedz - zedz has another game demo up for consumption. He would like to know what you would think would make good aliens?
Howdy-doo to new Journal Land denizen zyrolasting!
From the Staff
* Gaiiden's Scroll - Sitrep: Blog features in the News; VGO complete concert videos online; New articles, new events
* The Code Zone Bargain Basement Blog - johnhattan explains his book review philosophy. While he loves getting free stuff, that doesn't mean a 1-star review won't be the result of shipping him a gratis copy. Also a note on the state of the books section
Project Updates
* Happenings with VBStrider and Crew - IfThen Software Newsletter #45: GUI designs and system streamlining; new sketchworks from the artist; new high-ranking community member and SAO mod release
* Journal of EDI - This image from Morning's Wrath 2 succeeded in captivating me
* The Broken Mind - Azh321 still needs some 2D artwork help on his game (Tip: Link directly to your Help Wanted post)
* Reinvention and Further Development of the Wheel - Staffan E (formerly Staaf) provides more insightful looks into the development of his project Citizen, complete with code treatments. A decent follow-along.
Game Dev Stuffs
* Monkey, Robot, Pirate, Ninja - Slather has uploaded a sprite render script for anyone using 3DSMax that "will render animations and pack them into a sprite sheet. It can export a heightmap along with the image to use for normal-mapped sprites"
* Chronicles of the Hieroglyph - Jason Z's D3D11 tips series continues with #6: Compute Shader Addressing, which "will be looking at how the compute shader utilizes the new system values to slice up a programming task, and at the same time give the developer a very rich and powerful system to implement complex algorithms"
* Excursions into the Unknown - Mike.Popoloski has uncovered some weird behavior with thread apartment states in .NET. Sorry for the cryptic description - if you're a .NET developer you'll most likely want to check this out though
* Promit's Ventspace - Promit asks and then answers the question: Windows API Code Pack -- Is It Any Good?
Other Stuffs
* Any Colour You Like - benryves has updated his Sega 8-bit emulator Cogwheel from beta 2 to beta 3 so you can now change the controller mappings
