The Flight Game Example is on sale until the end of may with a 30% discount! Instead of 30 US$ it's now 21 US$! Use the code "MAY2009" and get the FGE right here:

"The Flight Game Example (FGE) is a complete flying game example for the Torque game engines TGE and TGEA from GarageGames including all necessary script and art sources as well as C++ Engine changes."

Find out more about the FGE here:

Will there be any updates to the FGE? or addon packs?

Any demo available?

Edward: There have been updates in the past.

Andreas: No, as when there would be a demo, you would already get most of the files of the pack, hence there are only videos and screenshots (and over 160 people who bought the pack meanwhile). Hope that helps a bit.

I'd think that the value of the pack would be the source code and scripts, both of which could be distributed in binary form in a demo.

Have bought a few packs for Torque before, and several have turned out to be not what I was after. Will probably pick this up at some point, but I'd prefer some sort of a demo first.

Well, the main part of this pack is actually the script code and that is something you can' pack/hide in a binary unfortunately.

I have purchased the pack ... it does what the label says.

Provides you with a working flight game and has 2 primary weapons and 2 secondary weapons.

There are power-ups that if you fly over will re-arm you ... and I think the big ships recharge your hull when you fly behind them ... haven't been able to test that cos I been too busy shooting some bots. :)

You also have afterburners and there is a GUI alternate that provides you with some pretty HUDs and GUIs.

Personally I feel it is worth the price and even more now with the discount ... but you need to make the decision for yourself ... I am merely providing you with some feedback.

The pack provides what the label says and was worth the money. :)

The hardest thing about vehicles that people seem to run into is how to "properly" set up the datablocks, the FGE does so perfectly. I was satisfied with my purchase of the FGE -- and that was a year ago. So it has stood the test of time, and is a stronger product than some other, more in-depth, "kits" found here.

And yes the big ships do repair you when you are near them.

I have just finished going through the source files ... and these are extremely well constructed. I managed to take a non-torque model, merge it into the scout ship scene ... remove the original scout ship ... and line up all the control objects to my model.

I then exported this and had my own model up and running in the FGE without any hassles.

As Michael stated ... this kit is well constructed and will definitely stand the test of sound.

I am in the process of moving the kit to TGEA 1.8.1 ... :)

Thanks for the nice comments - glad ppl still like it.

Quinton: I'd be glad to post your port to the FGE owner's site!

@Martin: Sure thing ... I have a two member team working on it at the moment and will keep you updated. We are quite excited about this one. :)

I played around a bit with TGE, but I would very much like to see a TGEA 1.8.1 and a T3D version.

I'm not expecting the T3D version to be for free, as there will be some investment needed by the person that makes it (Martin or somebody else). Some discount for those already owning the TGE version would be nice though.

Hmmm ... you have now posed me with a Dilemna ... TGEA 1.8.1 port or a T3D port. :) I am not affiliated with FGE so this won't be an official port.

I will attempt the TGEA 1.8.1 port first and dependant on how that goes this weekend I will then look at a T3D port. :)

Will drop it in a resource when I am done ... if I get it done.

Make the official port for both and I'll set you up that you earn with each sale also some money. Just an idea.

Good Idea! Both ports would be great for a lot of people!

All-righty then, I will do both ports. :) Almost done with 1.8.1 ... will let you all know when it is done.

@Martin: Just a quick question, how do you want me to package the TGEA 1.8.1 port? Must I just send you the updated source files and modified script files and you do the final packaging, or do you have another idea?

EDIT (31/05/2009 @ 20:40): I have all the C++ changes implemented inside of TGEA 1.8.1 except for the VMPlayer. I now just need to get the game scripts working in the new TGEA 1.8.1 folder structure.

EDIT (31/05/2009 @ 23:05): Most of the scripts are working now and there are only a few more items that need to be ported and checked. I just need to do some more testing before I release this, but it is looking good for a release in the next couple of days.

Below is a screen shot of FGE running in TGEA 1.8.1 (I still need to sort out the gui), but it is working. :)

Going to sleep now ... :)

EDIT (02/06/2009 @ 23:00): I have started a Forum thread for the porting process in case any of you are interested.

I dusted off my copy of FGE and played around with it again. The 1.8.1 port would be fantastic, and very appreciated in the community.
Good man Quinton!

Port hasn't gone as well as expected unfortunately ... stupid work commitments. :(

I hate my job ... wish I could work for myself again.

I will get right back on the ports as soon as time permits again ... my apologies for the delays folks I am really disappointed in myself. I will put this through highest priority now.

Sorry to dig up an old post, but has this ever been ported over to T3D?
