Plan for Mike Lasky

I've decided to write a 2D Adventure game engine. Anyone remember those? Monkey Island, Space Quest, woo! Just looking for some feedback, think anyone else in the world is interested in making the good old 2D adventure games? And would people be willing to pay 25$ for source code and tools for an engine to do so?

making it 3D would be an option. if I were making an adventure game I'd pay $25 for a good engine if I could get the source code.

Mike, if you look around you'll find a few pretty good 2d adventure game engines that are free. Jeff, I've been thinking about developing such a beast. I'm going to post a .plan with extended info about it, but first I'm refining some ideas about focusing the adventure around "non-linear" characters rather than a non-linear story. Tracking changes in characters (similar to stats in an RPG, but not centered around the numbers and their use) should be easier than accounting for all the possibilities of a non-linear story.

Adam,
I've seen the free ones and I think I can do better. Also, though it would be nice to pull in a little money from this project, that is not my main goal. After I downloaded torque I realized I need to work on my C++ skills a bit. So that's my real reason begind developing this engine. I hope to create a 3D engine too, most likely using torque in the future. Can't wait to see your project, it sounds interesting.
