Illumina Updates

by Ian Roach · 07/10/2006 (5:57 pm) · 13 comments

With the Illumina beta test now finished, we are busy working on our next revision. Which will be a full demo.

Besides bug fixing and code enhancements the one area we are looking for help with is maps as well as modeller help.

We are looking for experience torque map designers. No experience creating buildings is needed as we have over 200 meg of map objects for use already, we are looking for people with good ideas for map layouts/designs e.t.c

Help wanted ad for that can be found here - www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=project&page=view.job&qid=5561

Some of the new updates coming for demo 2

-Updated gui/interface enhancements
-Updated gfx (DRL and water enhancements)
-Various gameplay fixes , vehicles, guns e.t.c
-Ai bots
-Reintroduction of flying vehicles

Dont have a timeframe just yet, but should be in the next few weeks . We will also be at IGC in someform so look out for us there as well.

Anyway what good is a plan without some screenshots. These are screens of a new map ive been working on . Porting alot of our unused assets over from our old torque1.3 engine build.

Thats cool looking, I like your water, but the floor texture in the second picture almost gave me a little seizure.

I've been looking forward to Illumina for a long time - keep up the great work! I can't wait to pay you for this game.

Looking good Ian, I can see a lot of improvements from the beta. Lighting is much better, details seem to be improved on the interiors too. I would suspect that you've been corresponding with a certain good coder also, from particular interior detail effects. wink. wink. =P

Keep at it. I know as much as anyone how exhausting it can get to be.

Man, if I wasn't so caught up in my own game, I would definitely help you with your map layouts.
Oh well. I must say, it's looking better with every blog. Keep up the good work.
(By the way, that floor texture in screen 2 seems like it COULD end up killing someone.)

We want to make it as real as possible so when you die, we invoke involuntary seizures :P

Actually its not as bad as it looks in motion, but i might consider changing it slightly :)

astronomy.swin.edu.au/~pbourke/texture/metaltread/steelpops3.jpgYou can use that temporairily, it needs resising and recoloring, but it looks good, and doesnt send people into convultions. = )

It looks fine on my TFt monitor... maybe it only flickers on CRT monitors...

It doesn't flicker, but the repeating pattern is actually kind of headache-inducing =0 I actually like the texture though, it looks like some crazy non-skid walking surface on some groovy sci-fi set, but maybe the contrast could be lowered a bit?

Looking good.. What's the idea behind the vignette in the first three images?

looks good but i dont like the bump mapped floor texture at all. the texture seems to extend out about 10 feet and then it's just mipmapped out of existence.

Cool Ian! Been working on Illumina for a while now and have seen it go through some major changes soooo many times :P I like some of the new effects in it, the HDR, Bloom, realtime reflections on water.. Sometimes I not sure if its worth the performance trade off though! :) My favorite effect is the bloom.

Illumina has some really cool features in it that are already done, just need a few people to help out to finish it!
