Time to just DO IT

So, I've technically been a member of GarageGames since, oh, 2000. Right after they started up I believe. I've been loosely following what GG has been up to, both via newsletters and in the press since then, but not really participating much.
I've always wanted to do game development - since the time that I was 5 years old, sitting in front of my Uncle's Apple ][ green monochrome screen. I went to college for a while, unfortunately in the wrong school for me, and left without ever really getting the skills I needed. After that, I ended up landing a job doing I.T. work, then from there started climbing the ladder to where I am today. Now I've moved back to my home state from the East Coast and have opened my own one-man consultancy, doing business programming and building web sites.
I should be thrilled, but its slowly dragging me down again. I like programming, and I definitely like what I'm doing now better than my last "real" job programming annuity systems, but the game development monkey is still sitting on my back. I've always been a left AND right brain person and want to do something creative again.
In the past couple of months, I took over the long running (since 1998) Daily Gaming News newsletter and converted it into a blog with a daily email. (www.dailygamingnews.net - sign up!) Today, I blogged about GG's B.I.G. competition and decided: "Time to just DO IT!"
I've been batting around some ideas for a puzzle game lately, and have decided that, irregardless if it goes anywhere, I'm just going to set aside the time from my already overcrowded day, and build SOMETHING. I'm hoping that that is an enjoyable experience, and will then likely purchase at least the 2D license - if not both the TGB and TGE licenses.
No time like right now to do what I've been dreaming about. Hopefully I'll be active on the forums and such and meet some other like minded folks for support.

Woah, you're right Anthony - it was almost 4 years to the DAY. Crazy. I guess I get the Game Dev Fever around E3 every year. :)
