Hello all,
Its been a while since I last bloged (Sorry for the inconvenience). Well, hello again. First I am going to talk about the Staying Alive demo sicheation(redneck slang ya all). Then show concept art and tell about job openings. The demo is infact large and in charge. We at 1st c.u.g changed the demo completely to were it now occurs 24 hours before...DEF-CON 1.Exciting....kinda. Ciniamatics is a B@#!&. We are doing are best we can do but stuff dose not want to go the right way EVER. I am talking with a programer and all. Suddenly he jumps with a huge price were I truly don't know were he's coming from.
HUD
simple enemy/ally AI
weapons
decals representing blood on walls??
explosion
$2600 for just this....good God! I think I am getting ripped off here. This is ridicules. He is something else. I am trying to reson with him but not happening. I want to find someone who will help program...I need something in concrete before I let this guy go. Moving on to concept art well here(not in color):
This is the main character Srag Nick Scott in his infection\nuke suit.
This is...well what the hell did Ian Wilson draw.
Then the door way to hell on fancy notebook paper.
There is more but you can't see it.
Now here are the job openings:
Programer
3D artist
Level designer
Concept artist
That's all for now folks but tell me what you think;)
see ya,
Travis Wood

But $2600 for that is a TOTAL rip off. To the extreme. 95% of what you need is in the resources.

@Feni: The $2600 wasn't for the concept art, Travis and Ian drew that themselves...But $2600 for that is a TOTAL rip off. To the extreme. 95% of what you need is in the resources.

If you are talking to a consultant, depending on the person and quality of thier work, those prices seem reasonable. When I consult for my company I get billed out at $1200 a day, usually with a 2 day minimum + travel and expenses.

lololol the pictures look like doodles I used to make during studyhall when i was in middle school. i would pay maybe 3 bucks for that. maybe... (assuming I had no talent at all)

The AI is a very tetchy subject, since you'll probably need different ai for each creature, judging by the drawings the enemies are hellspawn, and the allies are marine type guys, in which case you'd have to write a lot more AI than just a few files that magically work for everybody.
Weapon coding isn't really that hard, I'd do it myself if I were you, save yourself some cash. Hell if you did it all yourself you'd have a brand new computer ;)
The only thing on there that really seems like you should need to get a good programmer to do is decals, texture projections are a royal PITA ;)

EDIT: Concept and 3d artists are usually the same person in my experiance, although you seem to leave texture artist out, which is a huuuuge pain IMO - I suck with textures :)

-sigh- the money was for the programmer, though the programmer seems to be very versitile :P Explosions are works for effects artists (I usually double as this on my team, though I'm the programmer...?) the HUD would be something for an artist really, unless you mean the hud elements, and if that was so you can probably find most of them from the resourcesThe AI is a very tetchy subject, since you'll probably need different ai for each creature, judging by the drawings the enemies are hellspawn, and the allies are marine type guys, in which case you'd have to write a lot more AI than just a few files that magically work for everybody.

Note that I'm my team's programmer, which maybe - just maybe - might have influenced the do the programming yourself ethic. But ehm, seriously? I'd suggest learning the native language of your engine first, so you can do some yourself, even if you're not great. Sure you might have to hire someone for the bigger jobs, but no need to hire someone to impliment weapons ingame. If you're using TGE I'd be glad to point you to some of the resources that might help :)[Ishbuu]

If he's a proffesional 2600$ is really cheap. That buys you +/- 50 work hours if he's asking a reasonable rate. That's about 6 days of work. If he is asking the regular rate, that's only good for 30-40 work hours.

Interesting.. Ian Willson or Ian Wilson depending on which picture and signature you look at is being ridiculous 2600 for some badly drawn pictures.. :) hehehe
But really you should lay down a complete story board yourself, form start to finish what your looking at, then spell check the heck out of it until its readable, then do a plan. And post help wanted ads detailing exactly what your looking for. From your list I see you want basically everyone who can make a complete game and you as the lead honcho. anyways best of luck.. :)
hopefully it will get done before 2008 or 2010 or whenever you previously said it would be done.. :)
