Hi All,

www.torqueterrains.com

Ive started fresh this time around, and made sure I have all the i's dottend and t's crossed. Learnt a lesson last time, so this time, have everything in clear written permission from my image source to do this project.

Scrapped anything that was remotely related to cgtextures. Found a new source to use who is happy with the site, the license, and the way everything is presented. His site is www.goodtextures.com and its a fantastic resource he has there.

I have 2 terrains up on there to begin with for today, and the rest will come over the following weeks along with other content such as models and props, precipitation and particles, tutorials and decals all aimed towards world building

Previews on the terrains that are there for now:

All packs on the site are set up to just extract to your project directory, and you will need the grass and material packs installed to load up the missions fully without any broken materials etc.

The License can be found here

I hope they come in useful for someone, would love to see them put to proper use for something.

looks great! I just might use these in the demo in a few months that will show off the Castle Constructor and building kit/plugin that I am making for Torque (were not sure of the name yet), but it would be awesome to use these for that if that is ok as the building kit wont be free. So if there are specifics i need to do or watch out for please let me know this is my groups first real business venture and we don't really know what we are doing except with the art:O)

That would be fine to use a terrain for your example map, drop me a mail at andy@torqueterrains.com if theres anything you want to clarify beforehand.

Thanks Andy,
What happened with the last attempt I felt was messed up but I'm glad you were able to work out something with another site.
Great work!

Hey Andy, I've been hounding Jondo over the last year or so about how to get ahold of your textures. Finally! I greatly appreciate them. Donated and downloading now! Can't wait to try a few out here and there.

@ Kory: Thanks, well live and learn and all that, an the best way to learn something is by failing lol...

@ J0linar: I Have a snow based island level, I'm just a bit underwhelmed with it at the moment. Ended up making the level when playing with precipitation for another map and made a snow. Heres a couple images, I'll put it up if anyone has a use for it, I was going to go back to it again to see what I can do to make it not so bland

I just thought about doing a pack of terrains for everyone to use. Could I distribute them on your page? I would only include the heightmap, diffuse, and alpha map.

Hi Dino, Definitely, as long as all content is yours, can either do them just as a heightmap pack, or create a mission from them and texture them to post them up like mine, feel free to use the materials on the site for texturing them in a mission.

Any contributions can be sent to andy@torqueterrains.com and ill post them on the site stating the author, can also link to say a portfolio site or something if you wanted.

LOL, I hear ya brother. Either way, welcome back and I am happy to see some really good stuff so far. Oh yeah, by the way I think this sums it all up for most of use that are here:

'@ Kory: Thanks, well live and learn and all that, an the best way to learn something is by failing lol'

There is a really great line by Steve Jobs as well: 'Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith.' Steve Jobs. I would add.... Pick the brick up and throw it back!....LOL

@Andy,
I amma gonna steal all ur terrains... I love them!

I always thought that should be a game mechanic in an RPG. Make it so you learn the most when you fail at an action.

well, its not exactly stealing when I'm giving them away is it ? ;)

Got some more prettymuch ready to put up, just got in from work, was gonna get them up tonight before heading off to bed.

It would be awesome to see them put to use somehow... Always just made this stuff to make pretty pictures at the end of the day ...

Andy, good on you, mate. Cheers.

I probably won't be actually using these, but it'll be cool to wander around and maybe pick up some tricks from The Master. When bandwidth allows, of course.

I'm actually working on a few improvements to my own pipeline (watch for an up-coming blog, maybe) so I'm mostly focused on that atm. Still, thanks for these!

Anyway, 4 more maps going up now... everything should work in them, if theres any issues, tie a note to a brick and throw it at me.
