T3D Magazine 1-2013

Information about the 1st Edition

I think this 1st Edition is a great entry point for more magazines. The 1st Edition was never meant to be a mind-blowing magazine full of fancy articles and ground-breaking news.
There are some interesting articles in it, but most of it is pretty generic rewrites of blogs posted on GarageGames.com.
Generally I have made a lot of experimentation in this 1st Edition, and we will see how the reaction on each experiment is so I know what direction the next magazine should take.

I hope the 1st Edition will be sufficient to attract some people wanting to put some advertisements in the magazine, given the low price of advertisements. To that end I will be pulling all the strings I can to make the 2nd Edition be a little more interesting, with more exclusive articles.
For example, I will have a psychology student write an article about the human perception, exclusively for the T3D Magazine I hope to gather more articles like this, that are a little beyond the usual.

Thats all well and good but this is a T3D Magazine afterall

Right! And thats where you come in! I'd love to feature your T3D games, art, addons, tech etc.. Please contact me on lpjoergensen@gmail.com if you'd like your T3D tech featured in the next magazine!

Also remember it's cheap to get advertisements or thread-bumps in the magazine! More information can be found in the magazine.

Feedback

I'd love feedback on the magazine, please respond with whatever feedback you can give me.
Also I do realize that some parts of the magazine don't look that 'great'. I'm a single guy.. A programmer at that, I find this art stuff very difficult, so bear with me! I do my best!
Suggestions are also very much welcome.

Game series

Would you like a stable channel to publish news about your progress in your game? Please write to me and you might get a regular spot in the magazine to publish news / screenshots about your game!

Now to the juice:
The Magazine
Notice: I use Google Analytics which tracks a lot of information about the users, just a heads up if stuff like that concerns you.

Btw: I'm writing this blog at 2:23 pm so I'm probably forgetting to mention something, if I missed something or rambled somewhere let me know.

At work at the moment but will check this out as soon as possible!

Had a quick look looks good, thanks for doing this I hope its successful :-).

EDIT: I couldn't help but read it at work :-P... I really enjoyed the interviews and overviews, I would like to see more in-depth interviews.

I was left wondering what FS:EndZone based on T3D 1.2 was doing and what they think about the MIT releases etc.

Great start I really enjoyed it and you did a heap of work to get this happening and out the door. Really enjoyed it, thanks!

And that just showed, I wanted more! those greedy customers :-)

Very very cool. Congratulations on your first issue! I was a bit disappointed that you didn't go into massive depth - but that was always going to be the case, and this is a promising start in other ways. And it sounds like you're already planning some really exciting stuff for the next issue!

On a technical note, I had real difficulty reading some of the pages - the columns kept running together! Bit more space in between would be appreciated.

Well done! Obviously shed loads of work put into it ... for someone who looks 12. :P

@ MR Buckmaster
I found that the zoom helps when reading.

Great job; lot of potential there. However, on a slower connection it's nearly unreadable. Is there a way to scale back the images or make them optional?

@Steve, yeah it's designed to be zoomed out when you want an overview of the magazine, and zoom in when you want to read the magazine.
Also sorry about the wrong-spelled name, I think I saw it spelled like that somewhere and it just got engrained into my brain, will fix asap.

Also.. I don't look 12! I'm just reaping the benefits of youth! Besides thats an old image from when I were 17, simply the last professional photo taken of me didn't bother to have a new one taken.

@Daniel thanks for the input! Did it help to zoom in? If not I will make sure to put more spacing between the columns.

@Kevin thanks for the feedback! I thought that might be an issue, every page is about 750kB but wasn't sure how big of an issue it was.

I will see if I can compress it more, maybe I can implement gradual download of the pages (so it improves the quality iteratively).

@Edward, if the demand is there I might do a follow-up article on FrozenEndzone in a future magazine.

I was reading most pages zoomed in, didn't really help. If anything being zoomed out let me see the column pattern much more easily. And to be fair, it was only the SSDO page that gave me real trouble; the columns there were really confusing! Other pages like the Airship Dragoon article were fine, but I still think need some more column spacing just on principle (your column spacing seems to be the same as the average space between words!).

This is really awesome. But, like Daniel said, the column spacing is confusing.

I think columns should be maybe 2 a page and not 3 a page?

I liked to read it zoomed out, I got lost zoomed in.

Thanks!

real difficult to navigate, looks good zoomed out, zoom in and I can't move to the edges to read anything but the centre of the page, there are no scroll bars, when i click and drag it drags elements of the page, when I zoom in or out it zooms in to the page centre, there dosn't seem to be a way to zoom on an article.

I know your trying to track stuff but a pdf would have been a lot easier to read.

haven't got time to go any further into it yet (page 2) zoomed out I can't read the text, zoomed in I can only read the stuff in the middle.

Shoulds have more time to look tonight, I should be in the shower now.

Sorry If it sounds like negative feedback, Other than that looks good.

am using google chrome by the way will try with IE later
quickly tried IE couldn't wait, looks like it drags and zooms correct in IE. I'm going to get ear ache going to be late!

@David, that sounds weird , that shouldn't happen. I will setup an alternative page without the flipbook effect.

@Ali can you tell me why you'd want a link?
It's important for my future decisions on improving distribution :)

Lukas,

I think different format for all users to use and read magazine is a good choice. however it depends on, to be a free or a subscribe magazine.

not all users have a good internet connection.

Thanks and good luck.

@Lukas,
I have a 1.5Mbps connection and the magazine is a bit slow to download. I was thinking a PDF download would be nice so I can view offline once I get it to the disk.

The magazine looks great BTW!

@All,
I am very impressed by WinterLeaf wanting to make this magazine a community involved project. They have worked hard to show everything they spotlight in a positive way to help everyone grow professionally here at GG. I look forward to seeing this take off along with the community!
