New Torque User Experience

Let's try to make sure all the new users have a nice welcome and steering in the right direction, so *this* does not happen! Play nice! You, too, were a n00b once!
Sometimes it can be frustrating hearing the same kinds of questions coming from folks. I'm sure a lot of work is going on behind the scenes to improve and soon provide a fantastic 'new user experience'. In the meantime, it's up to us to make sure it happens, person to person. So please be patient when someone new jumps into the wrong forum or chatroom. You might be the first Torque user they ever meet!
Hoooah!

My favorite gripe is:Sometimes in IRC a new person enters the room and expects on-demand help within less than a minute, then grows impatient, tosses insults and then leaves. Example;
[9:04am]*KidA enters IRC*
[9:04am]KiDA: hey yo!~
[9:04am]KidA: How do I put the thing on the top when the player is jump at the box and shoots the other thing and power ?!
[9:04am]kidA: Why isn't anyone answering me ?!?!?!?!??!?! Hello ?
[9:04am]kidA: I thought you people were supposed to be helpful.. :/
[9:04am]KidA: HELLLLLLLOOOOOO?!?!?!??!?
[9:04am]*KidA has left IRC*
[9:05am](Random Idle'r): heh, he didn't even wait a FULL minute!
..what's your favorite gripe ?
(talking about the gripes will get things out & into the open. This will help others learn..that is simply how I view it. [Remember that old Steam forums video about Bobby's posting habits ? ..it made the world a better place!])

Someone coming into the forums trying to troll using a patent application for gold pistols that shoot lightning, while overusing the word "exalted". That's just about #1 on my gripe list. I actually think that guy was using some kind of bot, or just spending a huge amount of time rearranging copy and pastes in order to reply to people.

Look at the iOS documentation - over 1 GB , it would take at least 6 months to troll through that lot.
Sometimes someone pointing out one tiny aspect of a problem opens up an entire vista to the questioner.

If I had a euro for every time I'd read RTFM I'd have 3 euros 50 cents (I closed the browser really quick the last time and only saw RT but I knew what was coming). Well sometimes the manual ATFG (ain't that F******G good).Look at the iOS documentation - over 1 GB , it would take at least 6 months to troll through that lot.

I've been a Torque n00b since 2004 now and can relate! Wait! Does that make me an old skool n00b? :o
Seriously I think this was a very creative and entertaining way to bring attention to some long term concerns of members, and at a time when new management can take a look and act upon those concerns if they so choose.
My hat's off to Dave for portraying what I feel to be a rather fair and candid presentation of some of those issues.
I also managed to compile and run TGE 1.4 on a Linux OS.... After 3 days... >_> and not well.... But it DID work! xD

I am so new I don't even have the application yet!...
A friend just sent me to this site today and I have to say I think this is what we have been looking for. So, I am not well versed in game dev yet and I saw that video from Dave. I often lurk and research before I post a question but I have seen this behavior on both sides in almost every forum I have been a part of. It is frustrating not getting an answer, or you have really searched and maybe did not use the correct key word in your phrase and then get slammed for not know what to look for. I hope that this will not be the case here and with the drop in price as it is, i suspect that there will be a flood of new comers.
I hope to become a trusted member here as I will be downloading one of the engines soon. I just don't know what I need yet and as soon as I figure out which one fits my needs, I can start to learn how all this works.
Hope to talk to some and hope I Don't talk to some in the future.
Cheers,
