Today, InstantAction informed employees that it will be winding down operations. While we are shutting down the InstantAction.com website and Instant Jam game, Torquepowered.com will continue to operate while InstantAction explores opportunities with potential buyers for Torque. We thank all of our past and current customers for their support.

Have they made any official announcements to the public that we can read?

So before all this news came out were there any new books being made for T3D and TGEA users? Mainly on the programming end of the 2 engins

Darn, I was hoping to try and develop a MMORPG of some sort with torque, even trying to teach myself how to use it using tutorials (I know, i should aim at a MMO being a noob with not even knowing how to program, I just have these ideas I would love to see in one), what happens once torque is gone?

Even if Torque goes away the license will still let you develop and sell games according to the FAQ. So, don't let that scare you off!

Hayden, if the worst happens and Torque folds, this site could go away and you won't be able to purchase new licenses. Several MMOs have been made with this engine, and I can attest to its awesome netcode. However, MMOs ARE a big undertaking for a team.. let alone an individual. I encourage you to start small :PEven if Torque goes away the license will still let you develop and sell games according to the FAQ. So, don't let that scare you off!

I was probably just hoping that this site wouldn't disappear, it's awesome with lots of friendly help.

How fail is this? When GG sold out to IAC, several of us warned about this type of situation and were shouted down. I seriously hope Torque can be salvaged, along with the huge repository of resources that has been generated on this site. Sorry to see guys lose their jobs too...

As Joe said, I also saw something like this happening when IAC took over. On the other hand, I think that the resources they threw at the development team brought the kind of progress and innovation to the engine that we would not have seen even in another 5 years under the previous ownership. No disrespect towards Jeff Tunnel and company, they did a lot of great things for indie developers, but T3D in it's current state is now a completely different level from TGE/TSE.

As far as the future of Torque goes, I'm confident that they will find a buyer for the engine. Whether whoever buys it will continue the GG tradition of affordable source code licensing is another matter. Here's hoping they do.

Anyway, I am very sorry to hear about these circumstances and trying times. Good luck to all of you, and I hope you find something just as satisfying to do with yourselves in the future. As far as the future of Torque goes, I'm confident that they will find a buyer for the engine. Gerald, where are you off to these days ? ..still working on that game ?
#552
The 2D engine would be another choice. I'm going down that route this time and so far am having a blast with it. Whatever route a person takes I totally agree with you - I don't wanna see this site go away!

Hayden, if you really want to go 3D, make a simpler multiplayer game (1-4 peoeple). I started with a fps / tower defense sort of game. It let me learn the ropes and actually works, but someday when resources allow I hope to go back and get me a real artist to finish it off. The 2D engine would be another choice. I'm going down that route this time and so far am having a blast with it. Whatever route a person takes I totally agree with you - I don't wanna see this site go away!

From Mich:Bug reported. This is all that can be done right now.

Why is there a character limit now? And can someone fix it to where it is supposed to be. Supposed to be 5000 characters not 100.From Mich:Bug reported. This is all that can be done right now.

So has there been any big news with TorquePowered? It seems to be quiet. The Question and Answer page hasn't been updated.

@Barnette: The blog comment limit could be there to limit jerks posting lengthy editorial monologues whilst finding new ownership.

From Mich: Likely that the content was somewhat aggressive or disparaging to our team's situation. As for what to do now. I will respond in a separate post
