Getting Ready to Hit the Road to GDC Online and a Contest

by Donald "Yadot" Harris · 09/22/2010 (9:26 pm) · 28 comments

As you can see from Eric's earlier post the InstantAction team has been hard at work this summer. But it does not stop there. Derek and Eric are heading down to Austin to meet up with me and head to GDC Online (formerly known as Austin GDC) to show off our new Windows Phone 7 tech. We will not have a traditional booth this year. Instead we have a private meeting space to discuss business development and Windows Phone 7. I will also be hosting a round table at GDC Online titled "How to create a diverse team - and keep it!". So if you plan on attending, we will be running around the floor and attending different events. You can follow us and meet up with us through twitter @torquepowered

One more thing. For those of you who follow us on twitter, you know that I had mentioned something about an up coming contest. We have 5 additional GDC Online Expo Passes. To show our thanks and appreciation to the development community, we have come up with this simple contest:

From 9/23/2010 to 9/28/2010 send a tweet telling us how our products have helped you build your dreams. You MUST use the #torque and http://twtaway.com/fzhh02 in your tweet for it to count. And yes, you can enter multiple times. The winner will be picked at random by a 3rd party service to keep it fair and honest. Just to show a little more thanks to you guys - let's throw in Torque 3D as well!

Get Torque'd!

Get someone who has been successful, but lives too far away from GDC, to win and offer to relieve him of his ticket :)

Glen I would go with Ronny's idea. :) Wait no I meant to say just write what you like about our tools or why you bought them.

But I like Ronny's idea...

Okaaaay I can talk about that boring story about how I wanted a better engine....sigh....and here I could have "confiscated" someone's ticket...and Torque license (that's what I really want).

Windows Phone 7?

Shouldn't we be getting some Android support first? I mean, especially considering Microsoft's "record" with their phone OS.

I mean, I don't mind it at all! But I'm still thinking Android should be a bit more of a concern then WinMobile.

@Tyler not to get to off the subject of the post but there are some very good reasons as to why we decided to go with Win Phone 7. One being is our experience on the XNA platform. As for Microsoft record on the phone OS I think they are making some great strides in the right direction. First and foremost is the standardized hardware requirements, which for me is one issue with Android. Also Microsoft will have a app store as well which will help as well. I do love the Android platform. I will say this, once we have a way to support the Android platform in the best way possible that we wold go after it. But anyways back to the contest, I hope you enter in!

I don't use Tweeter or Facebook by principle so I'm out of this contest... good luck to everyone else!

Announcement, not Anouncement. ;)

Microsoft has done just fine with their phones. They may not have been in the "trendy" phone market for long, but Windows Mobile has been pretty good in business phones.

Android...laugh.

Okay guys slight update. You need to have the url http://twtaway.com/fzhh02 and #torque in your tweet in order to get entered in the contest as well, sorry for the confusion. One more thing the tweet has to be public so it can't be an @reply. You can mention the @torquepowered handle later in the tweet it just can't be the first part of the tweet. I will manually add the ones who have tweeted already. Also do not shorten the URL

Ok, tweeted.

One question though, why do we have to be following @torquepowered? I keep getting retweets on mangapage that I really don't want @.@

Yeah I updated the blog post you don't have to follow the @torquepowered handle. At first I thought it was required. Needless to say it was a bit rough this morning on the contest. In the middle of every one retweeting and such I lost connection to the internet for about an hour. Fun times :)
