A client wanted some jungle bits doing, I always test my stuff before I hand it over so decided to build a scene. What you see is ONE tree model and ONE billboard texture and the magic that is replicator along with my usual environment fiddling. The framerate is very healty too :)

TGE rox :)

Guess the framerate and win a broken sandwich

Very nice, only comment, grass needs a bit of work.

ando, tell the hardware configuration, video, etc, so it will be easier to guess :)

hehe, this is getting serious, it is a really nice broken sandwich tho :)

No Higher, you might get the crust for going into fractions tho :)

Okay, I can't resist ... 174.0000001 fps

3.1415926. Ermmmmm. Or does a Pi not count as a broken sandwhich? :)

Looks really good however :)

75 fps
Ando, pass me the sandwich, please! :-)

Nice stuff.
haven't you got more than one replicator in here? It seems there is a replicator dedicated to the non-vertical palm tree.
Am I right?

hehe, I will give you a clue because the prize is starting to smell :) its between 50 and 100 fps

@stephan you very close with 75fps, the actual model of the tree is twisted and alligned it to terrain in the replicator options so you see some nice natural variation

81 fps :) Looks good though Ando.

The answer is obvious, it's 42. Sorry, I had to throw in the Hitch Hickers comment. I just couldn't resist.

That's a relatively high end system. Considering there's no shadows being cast, no dynamic lighting (all I can see is the ambient light from the sun) and well under 10,000 polys being rendered on screen my guess would be 83. Though, given your specs and the scene in question it should be a lot higher. Torque is more CPU bound than GPU bound in my experiences with it. Also, setting your video card to 4xAA in hardware won't impact Torque at all, it doesn't support AA.

What are you using to obtain framerate by the way? Torque's metrics system or a 3rd party program like fraps?

PS The skybox, sun, fog and palm trees all look brilliant in my opinion. I don't like the colour of the terrain and the foliage though.

This answer is 82FPS, not bad considering

I was off by 1 frame; do I get half the sandwich (I was the closest)?

Considering your system I'd say 82fps is pretty bad. You're running a super fast CPU with heaps of RAM and the 7800GT is around the 3rd most powerful video card NVIDIA has on offer. Your scene (which looks fabulous, you are a very talented artist) is quite simple.

There's around 6 textures loaded into memory, no dynamic lighting, no shadows, a skybox, fog and terrain and at a guess no more than 10,000 polys being rendered.

If you're only pulling 83 on your system, users with an average system are going to be seeing a much lower frame rate.

Not trying to sound like a party pooper, just giving you something to think about. As an artist, it's part of your responsibility to ensure that your levels run smoothly on lower to middle range hardware. Sure, you can use high poly models, high resolution textures with heaps of alpha tests and effects like fog, foliage etc to make TGE look great however doing so results in a hefty impact on performance.

Darn, those broken sandwiches can be high maintenance to keep in working order! Oh, great stuff ando, I can almost hear the jungle wildlife already! Agree with the comment about the grass though, at least at close range.

Tim, I do always build efficently, I get around 40FPS in the Stonghold demo with the same settings, so I think 80FPS for a busy jungle environment using alpha is very respectable.

Lets say Joe Blow has half the system I do, he will still get a playable 40FPS
