Blog post
Heyas,

I have had the oppurtunity over the past couple of months to begin establishing IndieZen Radio and now we are early Beta. This means that we are getting established and should have the stream going 24/7 for your listening pleasure. We are in the process of getting the newscasts, sponsor commercials, and other projects we are trying to get arranged.
Over the course of the past two months this experience has been unique and has changed many times from the original concept. I have met a great bunch of people over the course of the past couple of months that have encourage and expedited the growth of the ideas and concepts.

IndieZen Radio is working to provide you a place where you as the developer and your game(s) are important and the focus of the spotlight. We are planning on having interviews with game developers and are in the process of having a couple recorded, edited, and ready for air soon. We also are trying to provide a way for people to get the word out about tools that can be essential to the game building craft as well as the latest news.

With our recent partnership with GameDev.net we will be airing newcasts every day starting soon. Eventually we will have hourly updates with the latest news but due to a lack of staff the newscasts will be updated when we can throughout the day. I want to thank Drew Sikora and Melissa Astle both for the help they have given to me in establishing this partnership and their willingness to work with us to get the job done.

We are also planning on hosting developer podcasts that will cover a wide variety of the gaming world. This is still in concept stage so I don't have much I can disclose on it at the moment. One thing I want to make people understand is that we aren't just focusing on game development. The reason we make games is because we have a love of games so I will not restrict the content to just game development but news from across the video gaming world.

We here at IndieZen also know that there are other types of indies out there and we extend our love to them as well. To that end we will be featuring indie music artists and providing them with opportunities to be interviewed. By the time we get to actual live date of September I want to be playing primarily all indie musicians.

That is what IndieZen Radio is about and we can't wait to have you come listen in and help us expand. If you have any suggestions feel free to email them to me at nicholas.bogart(at)indiezen(dot)net

Just signed up, seems pretty cool. Maybe you could get more techno on the station playlist? :p I'm just not in the mood to listen to rock right now, but you got me in with that Avenged Sevenfold. Can't wait for some gameDev interviews.

Very cool Nicholas, congrats for the effort, I'll check it out the site now :)

hehe well I have a good DJ friend from the UK that does live euro dance mixing. He just is clearing up his schedule and will be doing shows for us as well. So we will have some more techno around but I am a big rock fan with a broad mixture.... But since I tend to try and please I will see... maybe a little Paul Oakenfold or some Cadet Zemm.....

BTW for those of you who might be in your own bands there is a link to submit your band. I am working on getting it so you can upload some of the songs when you submit your band. For now I will email you and give you a place to FTP them...

I'm getting a message
"You do not have sufficient permissions to view this forum. "
When I try to go to the forum. Am I not supposed to access it through the user menu? And I am logged in.

That is strange... You sure you're logged in... I will do some checking...

Look awesome, tuning in!

Gotta admit, I'm a little confused by an internet radio station about indie game development that plays music. Music for indie game developers? I think you got your chocolate in my peanut butter. We're an eclectic bunch, and pleasing a demographic like that is ambitious, to say the least. I'm likely to check out the station for game dev content, but look elsewhere for music. Still very interested in what this station has to offer. :)

Thanks Jeff glad you think you are going to like it. Unfortunately sometime before I got up a Storm Benjamin aka my two year old unplugged my streaming computer. So I am pretty sure the stream was down for a while. But never fear... the back-up plan is in the works.

Russell sorry that you are not sure you are going to like the music we have to offer. I hope you do tune in for the developer content as we are working to make it the best it can be.

@Nicholas - Thanks for all of your hard work putting this together. Linking together Indie game developers, game development news, musicians and even gamers through an online radio is an impressive undertaking. You've done a great job... I can't wait to see this go live!

Happy Torquing

@Tony - So is this part of IndieZen the technology?

Tony Richards   (Jun 30, 2008 at 16:28 GMT)   Resource Rating: 5
@Jonathon - It's all part of the Indie 2.0 Revolution

It's a whole lot more than just the technology aspect.

Although the radio is mostly music right now, eventually it will be news, interviews and even lectures, and a place to go for Indie musicians to tout their wares and be heard by game developers needing some options for getting great music into their games.

Hey, we should talk about some of the recordings from IMGDC 1 & 2 and see what kind of an arrangement we could have to re-broadcast them, audio and/or video.

We've also got some more things in the works that might interest you... more about that later. I'll shoot you an e-mail when we're closer to unveiling more things.

Drew -Gaiiden- Sikora   (Jun 30, 2008 at 20:52 GMT)
Maybe the radio should have game music as well - enough games are releasing tracks these days :P

Nicholas Bogart   (Jun 30, 2008 at 21:21 GMT)
Drew - That is something we are working on right now. I was approached by a community member who had some suggestions and we are going to try and implement those into the show and test out how that works. One of the core pieces we will be doing is including game music or music made by game musicians. So if you're a musician and you want free advertising let me know.

Thanks for all the comments and all the support I will keep you all informed of what is going on and where we are at.
