- Summary:
- Since I can remember I have always had a keen interest in art, sketching and sculpture. I was always obsessed with comic books and game art and during the ages 11-14 I had taken on a few personal cyber comic projects in conjunction with a now closed down cyber cafe in Co. Sligo Ireland, usually science fiction themed and cheesily written. When i got my hands on my first home computer at the age of 14 I started to teach myself the use of Corel PhotoPaint with an interest in digital drawing and painting. My art had to take a side seat when i went to University at age 17 for a few years. I decided to study Computer science in Nui Galway, where I gained a firm grounding in mathematics and the programming of many languages such as c, c++, vb, etc. In the meantime I managed to teach myself the use of Macromedia flash as an animation tool for both games and web design and worked as a teaching assistant for the mathematics dept. During the last year of my Bsc in Computer Science & Mathematics in Nui Galway in 2003/2004, I began teaching myself 3d graphics modelling/animation with the use of 3dsMax 6 and photoshop, with the aim of bringing my art skills to the 3d realm. Since then I have been involved in a number of personal art/graphics projects and worked as a contract modeler and animator for an Independent Game Development company "Psychic Software". I started a Msc in 2004 in the IT Department in Nui Galway and worked as a part-time teaching assistant for the department in my spare time. In 2006 I extended my Msc research towards a Phd and am currently in the process of completing this. My Phd research relates to non verbal communication in desktop virtual environments and deals heavily with optical motion capture, neural networks and the use of the Torque game engine. I am currently working as a contract Lecturer in the department, teaching graphics and animation for film and games to Bsc IT students.
