- Gosh, Big Boys' Toys! I've been playing around with various game editors for a little while now and found that: a) It's rather fun, at some fundamental level creating games appeals to my closet inner geek-self; b) I'm actually quite good, which caught me by suprise; c) I've had to learn all kinds of new skills which are beneficial to my real-world, real-life job; d) fair enough, I'm not allowed to make money from somebody else's editor, but when licence conditions specifically include the right to take anything that I produce, sell it and ban me from claiming any credit - never mind royalties - well, that's just not cricket! Imagine my joy when I read an article about Garage Games - in The Guardian, no less - a company that seemed tailored to suit my a) to d) above, and especially d). It gets better. For the price of two standard games I can buy the tools that I need to make my own games and the licence to publish what I can, if I want. I did a lot of research first, reading the documentation, tutorials, forum posts, I downloaded Realm Wars and had a play with the editors, yeah, I want this Torque thingy! The rest will one day be history.
