An idea to revive Think Tanks (adding it to Steam)...

by Diablus-X · in ThinkTanks · 09/02/2017 (11:06 am) · 7 replies

Hello. My name is Diablus X (aka TheKamikazeMonkeys). I am new here on this forum, and I just played TT since my childhood and I actually have an idea to revive this dead game, because this game still has some potential in my opinion. How about bring this game to Steam to gain more playerbase, popularity and players online in TT servers? It could be great if garagegames would actually do it. It's just an idea. Please you can share your opinions and your thoughts about this...Thanks for reading.

IAC sold ThinkTanks nearly 10 years ago to an outfit called Defy Media, LLC that has been selling the game on shockwave.com even though it still uses GarageGames' master server.

GarageGames, LLC doesn't own any of the old game properties.

But if the new company that is still selling the game on Shockwave.com, then Garagegames LLC and DEfy media can discuss about selling the full version of Thik tanks on Steam. But if they do that, that would be good for those who create mods for the game on planetthinktanks2, because, instead of adding the modes to the forums, they can add the mods on the TT's Steam workshop (if the game is on Steam <ofcourse its not there but we are talking about in this case>). I don't know much about business, but they might thing that is a good idea, Steam is a digital distribution platform developed by Valve Corporation, which offers digital rights management (DRM), multiplayer gaming, video streaming and social networking services. Steam provides the user with installation and automatic updating of games, and community features such as friends lists and groups, cloud saving, and in-game voice and chat functionality. The software provides a freely available application programming interface (API) called Steamworks, which developers can use to integrate many of Steam's functions into their products, including networking, matchmaking, in-game achievements, micro-transactions, and support for user-created content through Steam Workshop. Though initially developed for use on Microsoft Windows operating systems, versions for OS X and Linux were later released. Mobile apps with connected functionality with the main software were later released for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone devices in the 2010s.

But if think tanks goes on Steam (when steam has a larger playerbase and can give more popularity to each game), it might gain even more player base.

It's a cool idea and I'm all for enabling players of a classic game to further enjoy what they love. However, GarageGames, LLC has no stake in the game at all. The master server remains up for several different projects to use, but it's purely a gesture of good will. Any products that use it, along with their future, are solely up to the parties that own the IP. Since GGLLC does not own it, you will not see any involvement from them.

Your best chance is to contact the owners, since only a couple of folks will see this post. Not gonna see much traction here. The links TRON posted are a good start.

Michael Perry, then how I can contact the owners and how can I elaborate more of this idea to them to show them that this game still has potential? The main reason why I'm doing this, it'S because this game needs to be revived, and bring back and revive IA's Think Tanks 2, adding Think Tanks and Think Tanks 2 to Steam, for gaining more player base to give it some popularity. And another reason why I'm elaborating this idea, it's also because this game needs to have a sequel (Think Tanks 3), but with modern stuff in the game, but I will sugest it to you and for the owners about it later...

@Diablus-X - I've never gone through the process myself. You'll need to track down the owner of the IP. TRON said it's Defy, Media LLC. So you will likely need to contact them.

It's a cryin' shame. Loved Think Tanks; it deserved better.
