Torque 3D Community Edition Activation

by Michael Hall · in Torque 3D Professional · 06/05/2012 (2:36 pm) · 134 replies

In order to provide a more centralized location for those seeking access to the Torque 3D Community Edition post your request with an email address here in this thread.

  • Posting will allow Alfio, or other administrator, myself, to verify your Torque 3D 1.2 license in order to allow access.
  • The purpose of the email address is to have a point of contact in which to send the invite to the Trac and SVN service.
Once you've accepted the invite and established your account with the CE you can edit your post here and remove the contact information if you have any privacy concerns. Also, take note that the CE is currently based upon the Torque 3D 1.2 codebase. Unfortunately this does mean that 1.1 licensees cannot be granted access at this time.

EDIT: 10 September 2012
Until such time as the CE is brought in-line with the T3D MIT open source model we will still have to restrict access for the CE to T3D 1.2 licensees only.

Some points:

  1. The write access to the svn server is obtained on request. Initially, everyone has only read access. This is to prevent some user forgetful, can accidentally commit code that contains errors.
  2. All requests for changes can be made through a new Ticket on the Trac service.
  3. Would be a good idea if those who make changes to the engine souces, do commit also the executables compiled and tested.
  4. Is recommended not remove their email address on the preferences of the Trac. Otherwise you will not receive email notifications when a change is applied or a bug is fixed.

Commit template:
- [COMPONENT] - CHANGE MESSAGE
    CHANGE DESCRIPTION IF REQUIRED
- [COMPONENT] - CHANGE MESSAGE
- [COMPONENT] - CHANGE MESSAGE

example:
- [Particles] - Improved particle system updated form 1.0.2 to 2.0
- [Bullet] - Fixed the missing SPU starting

If you want to close a ticket with this commit, just add (- closes ticket:13)

example:
- [Particles] - Improved particle system small fixes and improvements - closes ticket:13

~~(email removed)~~
[write access please -> well experienced with SVN/Trac & happy to follow guidelines/rules. thx.]

..this has put a nice smile on my face. Good Stuff.

---------------------------------------------------
P.S. I always wanted to do this with T3D & T2D|TGB.
So I have to say: AWESOME IDEA!!

Is there currently a T2D version alive ?
- After I use Alfio's server for T3D for a few months. I'll have an open discussion about a T2D community edition to ensure it's 110% cool and done as well as possible while taking example from Alfio's setup as to remove the need to learn another community based system.

I've been meaning to create a wiki page with a compiled list of possible Commit tags and and other guidelines... It's early days yet, but it will all come together :)

@TheGasMan: as of yet there isn't a T2D version, but I'm certain that as long as the proper observance about granting access to licensed users only is followed that there should be no conflict of interests or legal issues. We've already seen an example of the TorqueX Community pulling together and working on the TorqueX CEV. The Torque 3D CE and eventually one for T2D is certainly a logical progression of that initiative.
