NVidia Physx Developer Status Registration (borked?)

by Demolishun · in Torque 3D Professional · 04/11/2012 (12:24 am) · 12 replies

Last year I picked up T3D 1.2. Around that time I registered to be a Physx developer. I only ever got one email saying my developer status is being evaluated. A few months later I applied again and I had to use a different email address because the NVidia system would not let me apply with the original email address. I got the same email, but nothing else. It has been over a year since I first applied. The other day I get a message saying I should go download the latest SDK on one of those addresses. There was no link, no password, nothing. I have no way to get access to the SDK. I have no idea if I have been granted access.

So, in a moment of weakness I basically replied to the email notification and explained to them that if they don't grant me access to the SDK that they need to take me off their list. I explained what happened and my attempts to register. I was terse, but not offensive. Still I have heard nothing since. What is frustrating about this whole deal is that I have a product designed to work with their engines. I only ever use NVidia products when I buy graphics hardware. Yet I can't get access to an SDK that would allow me to develop for that hardware.

So the question I have to ask: Is there registration system seriously borked? Has anyone else had this much trouble getting access to the SDK?

Hi Frank,

the url I use to get to the PhysX developer Support Center is...

http://supportcenteronline.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=1949

You should have been asked to provide a password in the application for the account, so they won't send you one.

Maybe try the url above and the forgot password link and see if you do have an account and they just forgot to tell you about it.

Frank if you need the SDK package that is compatible with Torque I can supply it to you.

@jona,
I just tried to the "Forgot Your Password" link. It has not yet sent me a password reset email. Then I tried registering again and it says my email is already in the system. Something is wonky about the reset the password system or email system. I don't filter my email or dump stuff into a spam folder so I don't know why it wont send me an email.

@TheGasMan,
I will have to try that.

I just checked to make sure it is not getting stuck in my hosting service email system. It looks like it is just not getting sent.

Their system is kind of stupid. It says if you don't login every 6 months then you have to use a "new" email address to register. That means your old email addresses are getting stuck in their system with no way to reuse them? For a company that creates some of the best graphics hardware their SDK website has much to be desired.

@Mike,
I may have to take you up on that at some time. Right now I don't really want to think about it. This whole registration process just distracts me from actually getting work done. Let me know when you get your website up and I will login as a user and we can exchange information. I don't want to post my details on the forums.

I had the exact same problem for years and then they eventually after probably two years they actually deleted my account. This past December I registered again with the same email I had previously registered five years ago and this time after two weeks they did appear to have activated it to allow me to download the PhysX SDK. I only knew about it after checking to see if I had SDK download links every couple of days after re-registering I finally got the download links, but never received an email notifying me of acceptance or activation.

Because of this non-sense I've been occasionally trying to push GarageGames developers during community hour on IRC into switching over to using Bullet instead since obviously nVidia isn't taking the whole PhysX SDK thing very seriously.

Are you sure that you're logging into the correct part of their site?

Info stored in the PhysX Support Center (where you get your downloads) does not seem to be stored at their main developer site. Hence I have to log in via their support centre, whilst their main site has no recollection of my details.

@Michael
While I don't want to cause Frank to have to wait longer to get the PhysX SDK, I would advise against sharing it. Nvidia's EULA specifically prohibits that and is why we haven't been able to supply a GG hosted download of it. Personally I always like to err on the side of caution in greyish licensing circumstances like that.

@Frank
Definitely hit up their forums and double check the site you went through as Steve suggested. I know there's a dead version of the support site that isn't used anymore that's possible to get to if you follow the wrong link. This is the support site to sign up through.

Amusingly PhysX emails about new downloads send you to a site which you DID NOT get your original activation or downloads from, and are thus not registered with ... ... FFS ...

Meanwhile in the PhysX Developer Website Department ...

@Nathan,
I really was heading that route to just use Bullet. I cannot imagine what it would be like to get support for the Physx SDK if I cannot even get registered. The main question I had on bullet is how well it is integrated into the networking.

@Steve,
I thought I was at the correct site.

@Scott,
That is the site I used...I think... Holy heck it has been more than a year since the first try. So I cannot be sure.

Edit:
Still no emails at this point. Just tried the reset password again and still no go. I will have to get on the forums tonight.
