Good Bye Garage Games!

Hi all, for the last time...

This will be my final blog.

Alot has happened since 2004 when I first launched my very first Ambient sounds pack here on Garage Games. I have had a lot of critics, both good in supporting my efforts and bad from those who always put everything I did down. Well, I've locked in a deal to finally do what I love and for a living. I have moved from designing games and content packs to other things in my life, like doing sound design full time for a local firm here in my home town. I am also switching using Torque for my work projects to other engines like UDK 4 and Unity for future projects I do for clients regarding terrain packages.

So I am just wanting to say it has been a great run. Thank you to all my friends who have been there to support my efforts. Too many things have changed here to make staying worth my time, everyone has been expecting an artist to release content for free and you can't make a living doing content for Torque anymore. So to relieve myself from this problem, I have moved into finding me a job where my talents are much more appreciated, I'm paid to do what I love doing and I don't have to worry about selling content packs to make a added living on the side. People have enjoyed my content packs (ambient packs anyways) for years, which I can't thank you all for supporting my efforts over the years.. you know who you are.

I still have paid content I will still use from my products pages here at GG but I just won't be using torque engines much anymore since I am learning UDK and Unity more and are diving deeper into that abyss day by day. Now I see why people are moving from Torque to UDK and Unity, cause they are quality engines and are easy to use once you get your head around them of how they work. I wish you all the best with your projects and hope you all have a great ending to your 2014.

I will miss the good times, but looking to the past, you must also look into the future. Brighter days await. I can't wait to see how it all turns out. I will not be returning to write any more blogs, but for those friends who would like to stay in touch, you know how to reach me.

Take care and good luck... Til next we meet!

Sincerely,

Will

Good luck, Will.
Some times I do think the same, that t3d should improve a lot things to not lost more ppl. Some times I think also to change to cry3 or some thing. But always I don't like to pay every month a fee, just to be able to use the engine, and then when I sell a game pay % from your hard work to the engine company.

But yes, I would love to see, that torque could be like cry3 power and have same features. I think I'm also at the point I gave up to dream about that. I also think I don't like to learn a new engine.

But never knows :)

Hey Will,
You got me to look at Unreal Engine. OMG I am impressed by what they have to offer. It also turns out Polyvox is porting Cubiquity to Unreal. If it is $200 like the Unity one it could be one of hell of a nice platform for Voxel based games. I really like that the first version for Unreal is actual organic and not the cubes.

Hi Will,

Good luck. I'd suggest you check out UE4 rather than UDK/UE3...they aren't supporting the engine anymore.
