We Just Released a Pirate Game After Five Years!

I've been a member of this community for a long time so it's with great joy that I'm announcing to you that my team has finished its game. It's a pirate strategy game built with Torque Engine 2D (we started on it before it was called Game Builder). It's actually using version 1.7.6 of the engine. I considered upgrading to the open source version but the changes seem too dramatic so we stuck with what we had.

The game took about five and a half years to finish and I'm betting it will be one of the last games to be released with the non-open source version of the engine. If you're interested in a detailed journey of what we went through to finish the game then visit our site. I've written a whole series of blog posts there that chronicle the difficulties that we went through on a year-by-year basis. I imagine some of you will find it encouraging - or something - possibly depressing.

You are, of course, also welcome to download, play, and buy the game, but what's even more important to me is that you support our Greenlight campaign. One thing I've learned since releasing our game is that I probably should have been doing a lot more marketing in the last year. Conventional advice is that you should market the entire time you're developing but that would have been disastrous for us because building our game took so long. On top of that I was convinced we were almost done for the last three years or so. Still we probably should have put out a few videos in the real last year just to show what we have.

Anyway, here's a link to our site where you'll find the game and more info on it and I would love to hear what you think. You'll also find our link to our Greenlight page and would greatly appreciate your support. We Torque users need to stick together. :)

Congratulations! It's always nice to see a success story.
There aren't many games that I have time for or would play nowadays, but this game actually looks like fun. Good job!

Looks great! Nice work! I know how it feels for a game to take so damn long to make. We've got almost 4 years on The AlterVerse Project now. Waaay longer than I originally thought and we're not done yet!
